Chapter 43. UFO and Aliens

In movies, TV series and documentaries, UFOs and aliens are a popular theme of entertainment. Many of these are fiction but it is hard to ignore some of the incidents. There are many videos, blogs and websites all over the internet dedicated to UFOs and aliens. While many of the claims of UFO and alien incidents may be hoaxes, but not all of them. Some incidents are genuine cases of close encounters with the unknown. Science must take real cases of UFO and alien encounter incidents seriously to investigate instead of taking a rigidly sceptical approach.

We can imagine advanced technologies that the alien beings have, as they travel to visit Earth from distant planets and galaxies compared to humans who have merely visited the moon and are planning to reach Mars. Numerous information is available on the Internet about ancient Stone-Age cave paintings from different parts of the world that resemble alien visitors. If that is true, then travelling to other planets and galaxies thousands of years ago, when humans were in the Stone Age, is no joke. Anyone can think of the superiority of technology that aliens possessed thousands of years ago. With this logic, if we compare scientific developments throughout human history with technologies possessed by aliens thousands of years ago, then aliens are still far ahead of our time; because humans are preparing to visit Mars, but aliens are travelling all over the universe. We know that humans have made a lot of progress in science and technology, but if we think about how much aliens have developed technologically in the last thousands of years, it would be beyond our imagination. In the distant future, no matter how much technological progress will be made in the era of super-beings and divine-beings, even then aliens will remain far ahead. With this logic, if we think about the future of the technological progress of some advanced alien civilizations from distant planets and galaxies, there will be much more after the phase of divine-singularity beyond our understanding and imagination.

Maybe some of the distant alien civilizations on other planets and galaxies have reached Singularity much earlier than humans and know better how to manage technological singularity. We can have a better understanding of the world if we take UFOs and aliens seriously, which will help humanity to manage and handle the complex technologies during the era of Singularity in the distant future. The universe is very vast, and we still know very little about the universe, and there can be many forms of life in the universe.

In 2019, a private UFO enthusiast donated his collection of 30,000 documents to the University of Manitoba in Canada. This donation comes with the courtesy of Chris Rutkowski, a science writer and a prominent Canadian ufologist. According to a statement from the University of Manitoba, Rutkowski’s collection includes more than 20,000 UFO reports filed over the past 30 years and over 10,000 UFO-related documents from the Canadian Government. The efforts made by Chris Rutkowski are worth appreciating.

Debunkers discount the reality of UFO crafts, while often providing silly hypotheses describing only one or two aspects of a UFO encounter. Sceptics declared that all UFO sightings are misinterpretations of common phenomena, hoaxes or mass hallucinations. None are actually spacecraft. But the fact is that some of the UFO encounters defy conventional explanation. Spain started declassifying their UFO files in 1991, including sightings since 1962. Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Ecuador, France, New Zealand, Russia, Sweden and the United Kingdom have been declassifying their UFO files since 2008. In the USA, the CIA has released hundreds of classified UFO documents to the public in 2016. The French Committee for In-Depth Studies, or COMETA, was an unofficial UFO study group of high-ranking scientists and military officials that studied UFOs in the late 1990s. They released the COMETA Report, which summarized their findings. They concluded that five per cent of the encounters were reliable but unexplained. The best possible hypothesis available was that the observed craft was extraterrestrial.

Some of the well-documented cases on the UFOs and aliens phenomena from around the world are as follows.

Coyne Helicopter Incident – 1973, Mansfield, Ohio, USA

A four-men U.S. Army Reserve helicopter crew flew over Mansfield, Ohio, at 11:05 p.m. on October 18, 1973, when they experienced a near-midair collision with a UFO.
After the incident, the crew signed an official report and submitted it to both the Army and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). The Center for UFO Studies (CUFOS) investigated the incident, which was conducted by Jennie Zeidman. The helicopter crew consisted of Capt. Lawrence Coyne, the pilot in command, Lt. Arrigo Jezzi, Sergeant Robert Yanacsek, and Sergeant John Healey. When crew chief Yanacsek observed a red light on the horizon they were flying at about 2500 feet. At first, they thought it was a beacon of the radio tower. It was coming on a collision course, at an average speed of more than 600 mph. Coyne took control from Jezzi and began descending the helicopter to the ground to get out of the collision course.

With the unidentified object flying over the helicopter in the air, Coyne and his crew all of a sudden saw a light coming out of it. It was like pulling the helicopter upward from the UFO. The helicopter peaked out at 3800 feet (1250 m), and the four men felt a turbulence-like bounce, at which point they again controlled the plane. They had control and they went back down to 2500 feet, and then went on to Cleveland.

The unidentified object was metallic grey, cigar-shaped, with a dome on top. It was about 60 feet long, without openings for portholes or for intake. Ground witnesses noticed both the helicopter and the object, which they described as — like a blimp — as big as a school bus — a kind of pear-shaped. The UFO took up a hovering position over the helicopter and then the green light flared up from the UFO. It was like green rays coming down from the UFO — the helicopter, the trees, the road and the car — all turned green.

Coyne and his crew were not stopped by the Army from speaking out about their encounter with UFO. In 1978 Coyne was allowed to recount the UFO incident to the United Nations. National Enquirer newspaper awarded $5,000 to the crew for the 1973 Best UFO Incident.

1994 UFO incident in Ariel School – Ruwa, Zimbabwe

On September 16, 1994, an unidentified object stopped at the dusty playground of the Ariel School in Ruwa, Zimbabwe. The UFO incident witnessed by 62 school-children in Ruwa was a genuine — close encounter of the third kind. The Ariel School UFO incident that includes multiple witnesses is considered one of the best large-scale alien encounters in Ufology history. On that day, while the Ariel School teachers were at a meeting, about 250 students were playing in the schoolyard for a mid-morning break. Suddenly, three silver balls appeared from nowhere hovering above the ground. The flying orbs flickered red and three times vanished, which caught the attention of a group of children aged 5-12.

According to the 62 eyewitnesses, one of the spheres hovered just above the ground at about 10:15 a.m. and the orbs began to descend into the schoolyard. Irrespective of age gaps and the general difference in knowledge, 62 children have a consistent story about seeing a real UFO. The frightened yet fascinating children approached the UFO and saw two aliens, little humanoid figures, about three feet tall, coming out of the top of the orb, with a long neck, a narrow face, long black hair, and rugby eyeballs. One unidentified creature wore bright tight-fitting clothes, and moved back and forth on the bushy ground, according to the reports. In addition, the kids believe the aliens were just looking at them almost mockingly. The students also mentioned that they were scared because in their own lives they had not seen anything similar to these creatures before this. Bizarrely the students believe that the aliens used a form of mental telepathy to interact with them. Most kids say the message was — humans should take care of the earth and watch out for the developing technology. The incident lasted about fifteen minutes, followed by a stampede of screaming children running back to school, which alerted the teachers. The boys and girls have told everyone in Ariel School about their terrible UFO encounter for hours with utter amazement. Cynthia Hind, an African renowned UFO researcher, went to Ariel School the following day to see what they could learn about the UFO incident, along with her son, BBC journalist and electrical expert Gunter Hofer. Hind requested Colin Mackie, the headmaster of the school, to have the children make pictures about the incident, to exactly confirm what they saw. Most of the illustrations show – a saucer-shaped craft – some trees – small men with large black eyes and some with long black hair. Hind interviewed the witnesses, as well as Harvard Professor and Psychiatrist Dr John Mack spent two days talking to the kids who saw the UFO incident on Ariel School grounds.
They reached the conclusion from interviews – this is the most credible case of a mass UFO encounter. Even though no physical evidence from the site was collected except for some grass, the consistency of the eyewitnesses, along with the drawings has been considered to be credible. In 1994, students in Africa were away from media influence and the overall possibility of UFO existence, so it seems unlikely that they were making stories. Dr Mack, a noted biographer and Pulitzer winner, states that the incident was not a result of mass delusion and that no psychiatric cause could be found. The Ariel School UFO incident is one of the few sightings which have never been proven to be a hoax.

The Westall UFO Encounter – 1966, Australia

The Westall UFO encounter is a strange phenomenon that took place in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on 6 April 1966. At two Victorian state schools, more than 200 students and teachers reportedly witnessed an unidentified flying object that descended for about 20 minutes into a nearby open wild grass field around 11:00 am.

A class of students and a Westall High School teacher had just completed a sporting activity when the object, described as a gray saucer-shaped craft with a slight purple hue and about twice the size of a family car, was said to have been seen.

According to an eyewitness, the object descended and then crossed and overflew the south-west corner of the high school, heading in a southeasterly direction, before vanishing from sight as it descended behind a tree stand and into a paddock at The Grange in front of primary school students at Westall State School. After a short time of about 20 minutes, the object – with witnesses now numbering more than 200 – ascended at speed and left to the northwest. Many witnesses had noticed that the five unidentified aircraft circled the object as it gained altitude.

The reported UFO incident was investigated by two groups — the Victorian Flying Saucer Research Society (VFSRS) and Phenomena Research Australia (PRA). Both groups described it as one of the significant unexplained UFO cases in the history of Australia. On 8 April, the VFSRS team arrived at the site and spoke to the students and examined the ground mark originally mentioned as a great big circular patch of yellow flattened grass with a swirly pattern.

In December 2000, the VFSRS printed a picture and a short article in their “Australian UFO Bulletin” issue. An investigator, Brian Boyle (PRA), with four investigators from the army arrived at the site on 9 April. Boyle conducted several interviews over a number of days, which he recorded on tape, and took samples from the ground mark. These investigators were able to interview many of the witnesses due to Easter holidays (8–11 April). At Westall Tennis Club Hall, on 8 April 2006, a witness reunion was held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the UFO incident.
